A Family business established in 1948 by Wilf Watson, Watson Furnishing's first-class service has been enjoyed by generation after generation of customers.

We started life on Moorgate, Retford, selling mainly second hand items such as watches, cutlery and furniture. We then moved to The Market Square where we continued to sell quality second hand furniture and it was during this time that Wilf's son Barrie joined his father in the business.

With the furnishings store quickly going from strength to strength, Wilf realised more space was urgently needed and the former Retford billiard hall on Carolgate certainly fitted the bill. It wasn't long before we also outgrew the former hall and moved to more extensive premises at 32 Carolgate which offered the extra storage space needed.

By this time, Barrie was joined in the running of the business by his brothers Stuart and Neil. The company had also moved on in terms of what was on offer, now concentrating on providing new furnishings and carpets for the local community.

In 1989, we were able to bounce back after a devastating fire ravaged the out-of-town premises on Thrumpton Lane, completely destroying the building and its entire contents. The Business was relocated to 78 Carolgate - the former building of Beardsall's Furnishings - where we continue to trade to this day. (See Find Us Page)

Nearly Sixty years on and six moves later, Watson’s still concentrate on providing a very traditional service complemented with an impeccable range of furnishings and carpets. As demonstrated on our Product Range and Brand Names pages.

The business is now run by Jon Watson (Stuart’s Son), with the help of highly competent and friendly staff including a team of expert carpet fitters.

Our aim is to offer an extensive range of furnishings and carpets to enhance your home and also offer helpful, but not pushy, advice and assistance on how to brighten up your home. A member of staff is always readily available so don't hesitate to ask!
